Abstract

This study aims to compare the parameters of the magnitude of the primary decrease and consolidation time in the vacuum method using a membrane depth of 90 cm and the vacuum method using a membrane depth of 45 cm with modeling in the laboratory. The benefits of this research can provide a comparison of the vacuum method of installing membranes at a depth of 90 cm and 45 cm in terms of accelerating consolidation settlement time and contributing to science in the field of soil improvement. Primary consolidation theory is used in this study. Descriptive quantitative research method with testing data collection techniques by way of modeling in the laboratory. Modeling the vacuum method using a test bath measuring (2 x 2 x 1) m, the suction power of the vacuum pump is 20 kPa, and using PVD, PHD, and HDPE tarpaulin as geomembrane. in each test tank filled with soil and water with a soil volume weight of 1.79 gr/cm3, and a soil surface height of 90 cm. The results showed that with the same decrease, the vacuum method with a membrane depth of 90 cm took 60 hours while for the vacuum method with a membrane depth of 45 cm it takes 76 hours. Thus it can be concluded that the reduction in the vacuum method with the installation of a membrane depth of 90 cm is faster than the installation of a membrane with a depth of 45 cm. cm the vacuum method with a membrane depth of 90 cm takes 60 hours while for the vacuum method with a membrane depth of 45 cm it takes 76 hours. Thus it can be concluded that the reduction in the vacuum method with the installation of a membrane depth of 90 cm is faster than the installation of a membrane with a depth of 45 cm.
