Abstract
Kadar tembaga dalam kuningan (Brass) terbilang cukup tinggi. Penggunaan kuningan secara terus menerus dapat mengakibatkan kehausan karena terjadinya suatu gesekan antar material. Kuningan dalam pengaplikasiannya harus memiliki kekerasan dan ketahanan aus yang tinggi, maka perlu dilakukan pengerasan melalui proses quenching pada material kuningan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kekerasan kuningan setelah proses quenching dan media pendingin manakah yang lebih berpengaruh terhadap tingkat kekerasan. Hasil perhitungan didapatkan yakni menggunakan media pendingin Minyak Kelapa Murni pada spesimen (1) 112,975 Kgf/mm² dan spesimen (2) 112,452 Kgf/mm², menggunakan media pendingin Minyak Goreng pada spesimen (1) 106,329 Kgf/mm², dan spesimen (2) 106,319 Kgf/mm², sedangkan pada spesimen tanpa perlakuan nilainya adalah 105,847 Kgf/mm². Jadi, dapat diketahui bahwa media pendingin yang lebih mempengaruhi adalah minyak kelapa murni.
