Abstract

Ketapang waters are generally used by the surrounding community for seaweed cultivation, one of which is E. spinosum which is included in the red seaweed group (Rhodophyta) which has the ability to produce secondary metabolites such as antioxidants from extracts in the isolation of organic compounds by separating the components contained in the extract. , one of them by chromatography technique. The purpose of this study was to analyze the percentage and potential of antioxidants using the DPPH method and IC50 values as well as to analyze and isolate antioxidant compounds using column chromatography and thin layer chromatography. Extraction of E. spinosum using DPPH method and analysis of column chromatography and thin layer chromatography. The results of this study indicated that the seaweed extract of E. spinosum from methanol solvent had antioxidant potential compared to using n-hexane and ethyl acetate as solvents. E. spinosum extract with n-hexane and ethyl acetate solvent had very weak potency with IC50 values of 2296096 ppm and 437 ppm, while in methanol solvent had strong antioxidant potential with IC50 value of 73 ppm. The results of column chromatography obtained 13 combined fractions and there were a total of five spots on thin layer chromatography, namely in FG 2 with 3 spots, FG 4 and FG 7 with 1 spot each.
