Abstract
It has been done the research about ”The Preparation of Methyl Ester Sulphonate From Ketapang Seed Oil Methyl Ester As Surfactant”. The purpose is to determine the optimum condition of making methyl ester sulphonate surfactant with parameters include reaction time variations (3.5; 4.0; 4.5; 5.0; 5.5 hours) and to identify methyl ester sulphonate by using FT-IR spectroscopy. The formation of sulphonate group is showed by shifting of wave number at 1118.71 cm1 until 1029.1 cm"1. The result showed that the optimum condition of methyl ester sulphonate at reaction time 4.5 hours in the amount of 40 mL/300 grams Ketapang seed. Determinatioan of characteristics of methyl ester sulphonate showed that at the optimum reaction time 4.5 hours with emulsion stability 71.684%, density 0,8714 gram/mL, surface tension 36.232 dyne/cm, and maximum absorbance 1.428 at the maximum wavelength 660 nm.
