Abstract
This study aims to determine the reading ability of children aged (5-6) years and what stimulation is given to improve children's reading skills in Petanang Village, Lembak District, Muara Enim Regency. This research uses quantitative descriptive research. The population of children aged (5-6) years who attend PAUD who live in village 1 and village 2 in Petanang village, Lembak district, Muara Enim district, with a selected sample of 15 children. Collecting data through observation, documentation and interview techniques. The results of this study get an average value of 82.51 with details on the indicator mentioning letter symbols by getting a value of 95.85, the indicator recognizing the sound of the initial letters of the names of objects around it gets a value of 65, then the indicator mentions groups of images that have the same prefix. The same score obtained 61.7, the indicator for understanding sounds and letters scored 91.7, and the indicator for reading his own name scored 98.3. It can be categorized that the reading ability of children aged (5-6) years in Petanang Village, Lembak District, Muara Enim Regency is in the Very Good Development (BSB) criteria. Stimulation given by parents by playing activities, singing, technology, picture books and influenced by environmental factors of children.
