Abstract
Assessment instruments are needed to measure and train students' critical thinking skills on the topic of the water cycle. This study aims to develop an assessment instrument based on critical thinking skills that is valid, reliable, and practical to use. The instrument in the form of multiple choice test questions was developed through a development research design with a model DeVellis. The results of the validation of the multiple-choice test instrument by 8 validators showed that 36 items were declared valid with a value of CVR ≥ 0,75. The results of the instrument reliability test by 249 students showed that 30 items were declared reliable with a value Cronbach Alpha of 0,61. Based on the results of the student response questionnaire, the question instrument was stated to be practical to use with a practicality percentage of 3.11. The findings of this research study indicate that the instrument is valid, reliable and practical. Finally, of the 50 items developed, 30 items were retained.
