Abstract
Semprawang (Dillenia ochreata) is a plant that belongs to the Dilleniaceae family. D. ochreata is empirically used by the Musi as a cure for scabies. Information about the activity of D.ochreata is still very limited. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant and anticholesterol activity of the stem bark of Semprawang (Dillenia ochreata). The extraction method used is the maseration method. Antioxidants were determined using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl 2-picrylhydrazyl) and FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) methods, while the Liebermann-Burchard reaction method was used for anticholesterol. The results showed the total phenolic content of the n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate, methanol and total ethanol extract respectively 7.66; 9.18; 28.17 and 24.72 mgGAE/g and total flavonoid content 0.83; 5.43; 9.59 and 7.12 mgQE/g. The levels of phenolic compounds and flavonoids are proportional to the antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity of the DPPH method showed that the methanol was in the strong category with an IC50 value of 188,4 mg/L, while the total IC50 for the ethanol extract was 430.3 mg/L in the moderate category. The FRAP method showed that the methanol fraction was included in the strong category by giving an RC50 value of 27.2 while the total ethanol extract had a small value of 7.8125 mg/L. The anticholesterol activity of the n-hexane fraction has a lower value than the extract and other fractions with an IC50 value of 40.0 mg/L, but simvastatin activity is still smaller which has a value of 24.7 mg/L.
