Abstract
In controlling insect pests of cucumber, farmers usually use chemical nsecticide. However, the use of chemical insecticide has negative impacts both to crop production and the environment. This research was aimed at determining the abundance and species diversity of arthropods on cucumber (Cucumis sativus L) applied with Bacillus thuringiensis bio-insecticide and those on the field applied with conventional insecticide. The experiment was conducted by comparing field group 1 applied with B. thuringiensis bio-insecticide and field group 2 applied with conventional insecticide. The experiment was conducted in vegetable faring center in Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Selatan, from December 2015 to April 2016. The results showed that the diversity index value (H’) of ground arthropod in cucumber field applied with B. thuringiensis bio-insecticide was moderate (H’=2.46), and in the field applied with conventional insecticide had also moderate diversity with H’ value of 2.18. On the cucumber plants applied with B. thuringiensis bio-insecticide, the diversity was low with H’ value equal to 1.61, and in the field applied with conventional insecticide, the arthropod diversity on the cucumber plant also low with H” value equal to 1.48.
