Abstract

This study aims to produce a picture story book the theme of the universe. The development of a picture story book on the theme of the universe uses a combination of Rowntree's development model and Tessmer's evaluation. The Rowntree development model consists of three stages, namely the planning, development and evaluation phase. At the evaluation stage, the formative evaluation proposed by Tessmer consisted of five stages: self evaluation, expert review, one-to-one evaluation, small group evaluation and field test but not because they did not test the potential effect on children's learning outcomes. Data collection techniques using walkthrough and observation techniques. Experimental review results from the validation of material experts amounted to 3.87 (very valid category), while validation from media / product experts amounted to 3.81 (very valid category) so that the average score of the assessment result from the experts in the story book of the theme of the universe of 3.84 (very valid category). Phase one to one evaluation obtained average child observation result of 81% (very good category). The small group evaluaion stage obtained the average observation result of 87% (very good category). Of all the stages that have been done it can be concluded that the picture story book the theme of the universe declared valid and practical for the child because in accordance with the development of children for learning the theme of the universe.
