Abstract

This thesis is entitled "The Phenomenon of Students Memorizing the Qur'an at Sriwijaya University, Indralaya Campus." Sriwijaya University is a public university that is general and does not require students to memorize the Qur'an, but in fact, many students memorize the Qur'an. The purpose of this research is to find out the background, motives, and process of the meaning of students in memorizing the Qur'an. The descriptive qualitative research method was used, with data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The analytical tool used is the Phenomenological Theory of Alfred Schutz. The results showed that the backgrounds of the informants were very diverse and influenced the students' decision to start memorizing the Qur'an. The obstacles in memorizing the Qur'an include the emergence of laziness for muroja'ah, having too much fun while playing games, and not being able to manage time properly. There are cause and purpose motives that can be known in students who remain consistent in memorizing the Qur'an until now. That the purpose apart of the afterlife, it is also to get protection in the world because they are participating in a scholarship program for memorizing the Qur'an.
