Abstract
ABSTRACT Background: The use of nanofilled composite resin requires matching the color of the composite resin with the color of the patient's teeth, so dentists must provide many shades of composite resin color. The solution to this problem requires a composite resin that can match all tooth colors, namely a universal single shade composite resin. Objective: To find out the comparison of surface hardness between universal single shade composite resin and nanofilled composite. Methods: Laboratory experimental research using 30 specimens of circular composite resin specimens with a diameter of 12 mm and a thickness of 2 mm which were divided into 2 groups, namely the universal single shade composite resin group and the nanofilled composite resin group. Specimens were made by inserting a composite resin into a mold and irradiating it used a light curing unit for 20 seconds. The specimen were then polished using composite polishing kits and a hardness test was performed using vickers hardness with a load of 1 kg in 15 seconds. The specimen was placed under the diamond as close as possible. The load on the test machine was set to 1 kg with a time of 15 seconds. Diamond on the testing machine will form an impression on the surface of the specimen. The results of the data obtained were analyzed using the normality test, followed by an independent t test. Results: There was no significant difference between the hardness values of the universal single shade composite resin and the nanofilled composite resin. Conclusion: Universal single shade composite resin had a surface hardness value similar to nanofilled composite resins. Keywords: surface hardness, single shade universal composite, nanofilled composite, vickers hardness
