Abstract
Liquid lipstick is a product that functions as a lip blush for aesthetic purposes as well as lip moisturizer. This cosmetic is used repeatedly through an applicator to the lips, so the preparation is at risk of being contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus. Therefore, the role of preservatives is important in it. Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) in this study was used as an oil base as well as a preservative for the preparation because its fatty acid content has antibacterial properties. This study aimed to optimize the liquid lipstick formula and test the antibacterial power of VCO on the optimum formula using the disc diffusion method. The preparation formulation is applied factorial design 22 with the factor of VCO and microcrystalline wax. The response is used viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion. Based on the results of the analysis of the Design Expert®13 program obtained the optimum formula of liquid lipstick concentration VCO 50% and microcrystalline wax 6.5%. The characteristics of the optimum formula of liquid lipstick are produced red colored preparations, vanilla and coconut aroma, liquid texture, homogeneous, and pH 5,65 ± 0,05. The stability test of the optimal cycling test formula method found that the preparation has no changes in organoleptic, homogeneity, and pH. However, there are changes that significant to viscosity. The inhibitory power of the optimum formula of the preparation produces a clear zone of 15,33 ± 1,04 mm which belongs to the strong antibacterial. According to the results of the study it was concluded that the optimum formula of VCO liquid lipstick has good characteristics and stability of the preparation, and the VCO substance in the formula has a role as an antibacterial substance.
