Abstract

The research was aimed at knowing and analyzing palm oil fresh fruit bunch harvesting using impact reducer toward brondolan and bruise. The research used a method of Factorial Randomized Block Design which consisted of two treatment factors, namely impact reducer (A) and height of the fresh fruit bunch (B). Impact reducer consisted of three levels which were without impact reducer, impact reducer with 20 cm of thickness, and impact reducer with 40 cm of thickness. Height of fresh fruit bunch consisted of three levels which were between 2 m, 5 m, and 8 m with ± 1 m for each level. The research used the primary parameters and the support parameters. The primary parameters consisted of brondolan percentage and bruise percentage. Then, the support parameters consisted of potential energy of fresh fruit bunch, free fall velocity of fresh fruit bunch, free fall momentum of fresh fruit bunch, force of fresh fruit bunch, pressure of fresh fruit bunch, and fruit sticking strength on the bunch. The research showed that utilizing an impact reducer for palm oil fresh fruit bunch harvesting significantly affected the brondolan and bruise percentage.The brondolan and bruise percentage value of using impact reducer for palm oil fresh fruit bunch harvesting was lower than without using impact reducer. The factor A3 showed the lowest brondolan percentage of 0.12%, while factor A1 showed the highest brondolan percentage of 3.09%. The difference of height of fresh fruit bunch harvesting used impact reducer significantly not affected the brondolan percentage (%), but significantly affected the bruise percentage (%). The factor B1 had the lowest bruise percentage of 1.64%, while the factor B3 had the highest bruise percentage of 4.60%. Treatment of A2B2 showed the lowest average brondolan percentage of 0.05%. Treatment of A3B1 showed the lowest average bruise percentage of 0.80%. The soft and elastic type of mattress could reduce the impact of fresh fruit bunch on the falling area so as to minimize brondolan and bruise percentage.
