Abstract

Malnutrition in infants and children will cause growth and development disorders, if not treated early, and can continue into adulthood. One of the critical aspects of nutritional parenting is the practice of preparing and providing complementary foods for breast milk (MP-ASI). If the fetus in the womb gets adequate nutrition, it will have normal body weight and length. An effective way to maintain good nutritional status is exclusive breastfeeding for up to 2 years and complementary feeding from 6-24 months of age. The Taman Bacaan Health Center has innovations in nutrition service programs, namely mother and toddler classes and nutrition classes. This study aims to determine the model of giving complementary feeding to children aged 6-24 months with good nutritional status in the working area of Taman Bacaan Health Center. This research method is qualitative by means of observation and in-depth interviews. Collecting observations and in-depth interviews with 14 informants consisting of 6 mothers of toddlers 6-24 months, program holders for mothers of toddlers and nutrition classes, and 6 families of mothers of toddlers. Validity is done by source triangulation, method triangulation, and data triangulation. The results of the study on the model of giving MP-ASI in the Taman Bacaan Health Center area for the pattern of giving MP-ASI varied, there were four components that followed the recommendations, there was one of the components that did not meet the recommendations of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia no. 41 of 2014, and the MP-ASI provided still uses simple components. The experience was obtained by 3 informants directly and 3 indirectly, assisted by experience with the first child and based on family experience/hereditary traditions. High curiosity is seen in the act of seeking new innovations. Nutrition classes and classes for mothers of toddlers are one of the forms of facilities used to help increase mothers' knowledge and skills in giving complementary feeding using two-way learning methods. Still, there are some informants who do not routinely participate in these classes. Emotional support, information support, and instrumental support are forms of support that mothers get during the provision of complementary feeding. It was concluded that the model of providing complementary feeding in the Taman Bacaan Health Center area had not all been carried out according to the recommendations given. Suggestions from this research are expected that the Puskesmas will continue to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers and families about MP-ASI through counseling the mentoring model.
