Abstract

Background: Stress is a state of unpleasant emotional arousal that occurs in people when they are confronted with a potentially dangerous situation. Medical education is considered stressful because it causes many psychological changes in students. These changes can occur not only during undergraduate studies, but also during internships, postgraduate studies, and then into the practical life of doctors. Stress levels in college can have a variety of effects, one of which is sleep quality. The goal of this study was to see if there was an association of stress with sleep quality among Medical and Clinical Clerkship Students at Faculty of Medicine in Sriwijaya University. Method: This study used observational analytic methods with a cross-sectional study design, collecting primary data from respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which was distributed online via a google form. The consecutive sampling method was used in this study, which included 320 samples. The Chi-Square test was used to analyze the data. Results: There is an association of stress with sleep quality among Medical and Clinical Clerkship Students at Faculty of Medicine in Sriwijaya University with p-value 0.000. Conclusion: Stress has an association of stress with sleep quality among Medical and Clinical Clerkship Students at Faculty of Medicine in Sriwijaya University with a percentage of 66.2% in the mild stress group, 92.3% in the moderate stress group, and 95.3% in the severe stress group having poor sleep quality.
