Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding is that babies are only breastfed for 6 months, without additional fluids such as formula milk, oranges, honey, tea and water, and without added solid foods such as bananas, milk porridge, biscuits, rice porridge, and team rice . This study aims to analyze the factors associated with motivation for exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the 23 Ilir Public Health Center in Palembang in 2019. This study used a cross sectional design. The sample in this study was 95 mothers who had babies aged 7-12 months. Sampling of this study using Simple Random Sampling. The results of the univariate study showed that breastfeeding mothers who had low motivation in giving exclusive breastfeeding were 67.4%. The results of bivariate analysis showed that education (p value = 0.016 <α = 0.05) and maternal employment status (p value = 0.049) <α = 0.05) which means there is a relationship with exclusive breastfeeding motivation, while age (p value = 0.147), knowledge (p value = 0.128), family income (p value = 0.421), and parity (p value = 0.865) which means that there is no relationship with the motivation of exclusive breastfeeding. Suggestions for Puskesmas are to encourage Puskesmas to further enhance exclusive breastfeeding programs through health promotion such as health education for mothers and to form a breastfeeding community for fathers of infants 0-6 months. Suggestions for mothers are expected to be a family participation (be it husband, biological mother or mother-in-law) to be more active in supporting mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding so that mothers have the awareness and self-motivation to want to give exclusive breastfeeding to their babies.
