Abstract

The role of parents in the formation of the child's character is very important, this causes the formation of the child's character not in accordance with ideal values. The importance of proper and good parenting style plays a very important role in the formation of students' character. This study aims to describe the influence of parenting styles on the formation of the character of discipline and responsibility of students at SMA Negeri 3 Palembang. This study uses a survey method with a quantitative descriptive approach. The population of this study amounted to 240 people and used the Nonprobability Sampling Technique, namely Purposive Sampling by determining the sample based on certain considerations, the sample of this study was class XI IPA 1, so the number of samples in this study was 36 people. Documentation, questionnaires, and unstructured interviews were used as data collection techniques. Based on the results of the study showed that democratic parenting with the highest frequency with a percentage of 10%, authoritarian with a percentage of 6%, permissive with a percentage of 5%. While the character of Discipline is in the Moderate category with a Percentage of 20% and the Character of Responsibility is in the Moderate category with a percentage of 22%. Then it is proved by the results of Fcount > Ftable, namely 22.117 <2.68, which means that Parenting Style has a significant influence on the formation of the character of Discipline and Student Responsibility.
