Abstract

Learning geometric symbols only uses a picture and ordinary geometric shapes, so that children are less enthusiastic about getting to know geometric symbols and children are less interested in learning mathematical concepts, one of which is the introduction of geometric symbols which are filled with numbers, geometric shapes, difficult and scary. This study aims to develop a dice media using geometric symbols for children aged (4-5) years in Kayuagung whose validity and practice have been tested. The research method used in research development is Research & Development (R&D).The research procedure used was the Rowtree development model and Tessmer's formative evaluation.Tessmer's formative evaluation stage consists of self evaluation, expert review, one to one evaluation, and small group evaluation. The data collection technique uses a walkthrough in the form of expert review and observation. The results showed that the material validity was 88.33% and the media validity was 88.33%, an average product validity of 88.33% was obtained in the "Very Valid" category. The one to one evaluation stage involved three children with a result of 78.33% and the small group evaluation stage involved six children with an 81.25% result. From the two, an average of 79.79% was obtained in the "Practical" category. practicality in terms of indicators that include the attractiveness of geometric symbol media, fun for children, meaningful material, adding new experiences for children, and the ease of using media in learning activities. It can be concluded that the development of dice media using geometric symbols has been tested for validity and practicality, so it is suitable for learning geometric symbols for children.
