Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of applying the mind mapping method to students' critical and creative thinking skills in Civics lessons at SMPN 1 Belitang Madang Raya. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design method. The population in this study amounted to 278 students. The sampling technique used a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling type with a total sample of 62 students. Research data collection techniques using tests, observation and documentation. The results showed that the hypothesis testing was carried out using an independent sample t-test with the help of SPSS version 26 and obtained a significance value of 0.008 for critical thinking skills and 0.019 for creative thinking skills with a significant level (α) of 0.05. This shows that the results obtained are sig. < α (0.008 < 0.05) and (0.019 < 0.05), then the decision taken is that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus it can be concluded that there is an influence of the application of the mind mapping method on students' critical and creative thinking abilities in Civics lessons at SMPN 1 Belitang Madang Raya.
