Abstract

The decrease of estrogen hormone in post-menopansal can causes many changes in the oral cavity, one o f t hem i s periodontal diseases. The purpose o f this study w as t o determine the overview of periodontal treatment needs level in post-menopausal women in Tresna Wherda Teratai nursing home Palembang. This study method is descriptive survey. Total sample of this study is 31 post-menopausal women were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The CPITN index was checked by using a periodontal probe WHO Osung. Data were analyzed by univariate and presented in frequency distribution of tabular form. The results showed that the highest score is the score CPITN 3, which the precentage is (54,8%), followed by a score of 2 (25,8%), and a score of 4 (19,3%). The most type of periodontal treatment needs in this study is oral hygiene instructions, scaling, root planning and eliminating factors that cause plaque retention (TN2), (80,6%). Based on the length of postmenopausal women with post-menopausal <20 years old, respectively as many (25,8%) on a score of 2 and a score of 3, while >20 years was found in a score of 3 (29,0%) and a score of 4 (19,3 %). Based on age, with the age range of 60-66 years (25,8%) on a score of 2 and (19,3%) a score of 3, age range 67-73 years (25,8%) a score of 3 and (6,4%) score of 4, the age range of 74-80 years obtained a score of 3 (9,6%) and a score of 4 (12,9%). From the study it can be concluded that none of the samples have a healthy periodontal tissues, all post-menopausal women in a Tresna Wherda Teratai nursing home Palembang require periodontal treatment.
