Abstract

One way of demineralization is by increasing the resistance of tooth structure. That is by increasing email hardness and email durability by acidic challenge. One of material that can prevent demineralization is casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP Recaldent ™ ). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of application of casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) on email microhardness and resistance of acidic chalienges. This study consisted of two studies conducted in vitro using deciduous teeth. The first study is to test the hardness and the second study is to test the acid resistance seen by the Vickers hardness value. The first study was divided into two groups as well as the second study. The first study: control group is a sample that is not applied while the CPP-ACP treatment group was the sample that applied CPP-ACP for 3 minutes and is performed two times a day for seven days and then tested using a Vickers Microhardness Tester. Second study: control group is a sample that is not applied while the CPP-ACP treatment group is a sample of the CPP-ACP is applied for three minutes and is performed two times a day for seven days and then performed immersion in citric acid solution 0, 1 M to pH 5.0 for 30 minutes after it was done by using Vickers Mikrohardness tester. The results are an increasing Vickers Hardness Number hardness in treatment group compare to the control group (P = 0.001) and the treatment group more resistant to demineralization of citric acid compared to the control group (P = 0.000). From those analysis data, the researcher conclude that there are effects of topical aplication of Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phospate (CPP-ACP) in the decidous teeth on email microhardness and email acid resistance.
