Abstract
Lightweight concrete is the result of a modification of conventional concrete with certain materials and compositions that are currently being required in the field of modern construction. In order to innovate a low density concrete material, it is necessary to fill the coarse aggregate in the concrete with light aggregate material. Lightweight aggregates or artificial aggregates can be made using waste materials or other environmentally friendly materials. Fly ash is one of the materials that has the potential to be used in the development of artificial aggregates whose availability is still very abundant because this material is pozzolanic in nature. However, the pozzolanic properties of fly ash do not necessarily mean that it can be used directly as an artificial aggregate but needs to be added with other binding materials. The binder consists of lime, bentonite, chemicals such as polymers or other waste materials. the method of manufacture, the gradation of aggregate form, the treatment and the means of manufacture are the factors that determine the optimization of artificial aggregate results. In this study, the most optimal composition was obtained for the mixed material for the manufacture of lightweight aggregates, namely the F75-B15-C10-R3-CB specimen, which produced a density value of 1204 kg/m^3, a water absorption value of 38%, a compressive strength value of 13 Mpa. and 38% impact strength. Based on SNI 03-2461-2002 and BS 812 of 1990 these results do not meet the criteria as light aggregate.
