Abstract

Nowadays, Industry use boilers in process of steam utilization. To obtain the optimum steam, controlling the combustion temperature is required. In this research, mini boiler is designed, it look like a tube with a length of 80 cm and diameter of 40 cm. The combustion process uses gasses as fuel. System modeling of a mini boiler will be used to get the block diagram of the system based on the function. Then, based on the block diagram, PID controller is designed to control the temperature of the mini boiler combustion air. Input variables consists of temperature and error of the thermocouple readings. While, the output variable is the opening of the control valve. MATLAB software is used to test and simulate the process by designing the system with and without disturbances in the interval of 20 seconds. The result of a measurement and simulation with disturbance as follows:, PI controllers generate the best response, with settling time of 17.17 seconds, rise time of 10-90 % is 8.561 seconds, steady state conditions of 125 oC is 37.72 seconds and no steady state error. Meanwhile PID controller is better than PI controller if there is no disturbance in the system.
