Abstract

The motivation for further studies is a drive that individuals possess, both from within themselves and from external sources, to pursue higher education beyond the level currently being pursued. This research aims to determine the level of motivation for further studies among ninth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Palembang. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The population in this study is ninth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Palembang, which numbered 171 students. The sampling technique used in this study is simple random sampling with a sample of 120 students. Data in this study were obtained using a Likert scale instrument. Based on the results of the study on the level of motivation for further studies among ninth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Palembang, it was found that 14% (17 students) had a low level of motivation, 70% (84 students) had a moderate level of motivation, and 16% (19 students) had a high level of motivation. Therefore, it can be concluded that the level of motivation for further studies among ninth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Palembang is classified as moderate. This means that a majority of ninth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Palembang have motivation to pursue further education. Keywords: Motivation, Further Studies, Students
