Abstract

Fire is an emergency disaster and needs to be dealt with quickly, efficiently and appropriately to prevent large losses. Preparedness is an activity carried out before a disaster event occurs. The purpose of preparedness is to minimize the impact or side effects of an event that occurs in the community through effective, timely, adequate and efficient prevention and control measures. This study aims to see the preparedness of the community in dealing with fires. This research uses a quantitative approach with cross sectional study design with a sample of 104 households with a purposive sampling method. Data analysis using fisher exact test. The results showed that community fire preparedness tends to be in the category of unprepared (85.6%). The parameters of fire preparedness are knowledge, attitudes, emergency response plans, disaster warning systems and resource mobilization. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between the emergency response plan (p-value = 0,000), the disaster warning system (p-value = 0.021, resource mobilization (p-value = 0,000) and community fire preparedness, while knowledge and attitudes were not related in any way. Statistics Individual characteristics, namely gender, age, education, length of stay, and type of house Bivariate analysis results show there is a statistical relationship between sex (p-value = 0,000), age (p-value = 0.012), education (p -value = 0.023), and the type of house (p-value = 0.009) with community fire preparedness, while the length of stay is not statistically related, therefore it is recommended that regular socialization be held from related agencies and it is recommended that the community can attend training / seminars / workshop in an effort to understand fire preparedness.
