Abstract

The objectives of this research are (1) Describe the differences in the production process carried out by farmers who use superior varieties and local varieties in Pulokerto Village. (2) Calculate the difference in costs and income of farmers who use superior rice varieties and local rice varieties in Pulokerto Village. (3) Analyzing the factors that influence farmers' decisions to use superior varieties and local varieties in Pulokerto Village. This research was conducted in Pulokerto Village, Gandus District, Palembang City. The location selection was done intentionally. Data collection used in this study was conducted from November to December 2022. The sampling method used in this study was the disproportional stratified random sampling method. The results of this study are (1) There is no difference in the production process carried out by farmers who use superior varieties and local varieties except at the time of planting, namely superior varieties in May and local varieties in April. (2) The average farm income of farmers using superior varieties is Rp12.183.156 per ha per year while the average farm income of farmers using local varieties is Rp13.892.470 per ha per year. So the income of rice farmers who use local varieties is greater than the income of rice farmers who use superior varieties in Pulokerto Village, Palembang City. (3) Variables that have a significant influence on farmers' decisions to choose to use superior varieties and local varieties are land area, farm income and land ownership status. While the other three factors, namely the age of farmers, farming experience and the number of family dependents do not have a significant effect.
