Abstract

Mosquitoes are disease vectors that are widely developed in Indonesia and the world. Mosquitoes are the cause of several diseases, namely dengue fever, chikungunya, yellow fever, and others which can cause human health problems and even death. There are many ways to eradicate mosquitoes starting from using a natural way to using chemicals such as mosquito coils, mosquito sprays, and other insecticides. This study aimed to test the insecticide's effectiveness of mosquito coils and mosquito sprays. Experiments conducted found that mosquito sprays were more effective than mosquito coils. An ANOVA test was carried out using SPSS software to further strengthen the validity of the results of the experiments. Based on the results, a significance value of 0.475 is obtained. Based on the decision-making criteria of the ANOVA test, if the significance value is > 0.05, then there is no significant difference. Therefore, the significance value obtained from the output above is 0.475 > 0.05, which means there was no significant difference between the number of dead mosquitoes using the three different treatments, namely the control group, the mosquito coil group, and the mosquito spray group. It can be concluded that the mosquito spray containing Transfluthrin was 21.3% more effective in killing mosquitoes than the mosquito coil which contains 0.01% Metofluthrin. Suggestions for further research would be to use various brands and types of other insecticide contents so that brands and insecticide ingredients that are effective in killing mosquitoes can be identified.
