Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of personality trait agreeableness on loneliness in overseas students. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a role for personality trait agreeableness towards loneliness on overseas student. Respondents in this study were 191 overseas students in Indonesia. The sampling technique used is incidental sampling. The measuring tool used to measure the loneliness variable is the UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3) which was developed by Russel (1996) and the personality trait agreeableness scale which refers to the facet of Widiger and Costa (2013). Data analysis in this study used simple regression technique. The result of the regression analysis showed that the R square value between personality trait agreeableness and loneliness was 0,060, the F value was 12,002, and the significance value was 0,001 (p<0,005). This show that the personality trait agreeableness has a significant role in loneliness, thus the hypothesis proposed in this study can be accepted.
