Abstract

Chisel is a cutting tool cutting tool that plays an important role in the manufacturing industry, especially in the process of making a tool / machine component. As a cutting tool, of course the chisel material must be superior to the workpiece material that is cut. These advantages can be achieved because the chisel is made with regard to the nature of hardness, tenacity, thermal load resistance, wear resistance and so forth. These properties do need to be possessed by chisel, but not all are fulfilled as a whole. In general, the higher the hardness, the wear resistance increases so that the tool has a longer service life. Chisel machining process High Speed Steel on Stainless Steel 316 material Measuring tool wear is done in the Lab. UNSRI Indralaya CNC and Data collection carried out on this investigation by specifying three initial machining conditions namely cutting rate (Vc), feed rate (f), and depth of feed (a). The tool life is the entire cutting time (tc) so that a predetermined wear limit is achieved (VB max = 0.2 mm). From the data obtained after testing, the tool life is obtained after interpolation of the tool wear growth chart. The mechanism of wear and tool failure is very important because it affects the cost and quality of machinery. The main objective of metal cutting research is to develop tool age prediction methods from consideration of the mechanism of tool failure. One of the objectives in this study is to provide a qualitative understanding of tool wear so that it is used in stages from a tool to be described quantitatively. Turning process using Jhung Metal Machinery Co JII 530x1100 on the production workshop at the vocational training centerusing High Speed Steel tool on the Stainless Steel 316 material and variation of the feed rate and depth of cut. Machining process using tooling pieces is one of the important methods to dispose of the parts that are not needed with the aim of shaping the material in accordance with the desired conditions in the production of the machining process. High speed steel is a tool to cut a cutting tool that plays an important role in the manufacturing industry especially in the process of making a component implements/machinery. During the process of machining taking place the chisel will experience wear and tear. Wear and tear on the thigh of the chisel will affect the accuracy of dimensions, geometry and surface roughness of workpiece in the process. The tool life caused by the chisel toolwear that have reached its critical value that is on the thigh HSS Vb 0.2 mm. The tool life will increase when the feed rate is reduced. So too with the depth of cut, tool life chisel will increase when depth of cut decreased. The tool life of the chisel will decline or faster wear out when eating depth offered up on the conditions of machining which of values of the variation observed in this test (feed rate and depth of cut). The value of age the highest or most optimal carving is on testing where conditions of machining Vc = 84,78 m/min; f = 0.05 mm/tooth; a = 0, 5 mm; TC = 3,48373 minute. The value of age chisel lowest retrieved on testing where conditions of machining Vc = 84,78 m/min; f = 0.08 mm/tooth; and a = 1.0 mm; TC = 1,66275 minute.
