Abstract
Ion Imprinted Polymers based on iron(III), usually called IIPs-Fe(III), have been successfully synthesized using the cooling-heating method with MAA as a functional monomer, EDMA as a crosslinker, BPO as an initiator, and acetonitrile as a solvent. NIP (NonImprinted Polymer) was also synthesized without using the active substance Fe(III), which is a comparison polymer. The resulting polymer of iron(III) was continued to ground and extracted using ethanol (8.5 mL), deionized water (15 mL), and HCl (8 mL; 1 M) to separate Fe(III) ions from the polymer. After extraction, the results were characterized by FTIR, XRD, and SEM. The FTIR results indicate the presence of a unique functional group in each atomic bond that is a constituent of the IIPs-Iron(III) polymer. Based on the FTIR results, there was a change in the % transmittance of the polymer before, and after extraction, namely for the C=O group, the value of the % transmittance changed from 75% to 82.5%, the C-H group from 94% to 95%, the C-O group from 74% to 75 %, and the C=N group from 92.5% to 95%. This indicates that ions of iron(III) have been reduced from IIPs-Fe(III) caused by the extraction process. XRD results showed that the value of FWHM is got a little decreased from 1.911 nm to 1.910 nm. This indicates that there was no significant change in the crystallite size. Meanwhile, the SEM analysis obtained information that the number of cavities created in IIPsFe (III) for sizes <100nm was 237 cavities.
