Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is an important aspect of an infant’s growth and development. Coverage of exclusive breastfeeding according to Indonesia Health Profile Data of 2016 babies who have received exclusive breastfeeding until the age of six months was 29.5%. Results of Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2013 showed that coverage of exclusive breastfeeding for all infants under 6 months (0-6 months) in South Sumatera Province was only 30.2%. In 2017, the working area of Kerinjing Public Health Center is only 25%. This figure is still very far compared to the target of RPJMN 2015-2019 which is 50%. Many factors causing exclusion of exclusive breastfeeding one of them is the low motivation of the mother to remain consistent give exclusive breastfeeding. The type of this research is analytical descriptive with design cross sectional. Samples used by breastfeeding mother were 97 samples selected with cluster random sampling. Data analysis using Chi Square. The results showed that only 25.8% of mothers who gave exclusive breastfeeding in the work area Puskesmas Kerinjing Ogan Ilir District. There are five variables related to exclusive breastfeeding, needs (PR=1,773 95% CI 1,363-2,306, p-value=<0,001), hope (PR=1,786 95% CI 1,392-2,291, p-value=<0,001), intention (PR=1,346 95% CI 1,066-1,699 p-value=0,024), family support (PR=1,356 95% CI 1,093-1,681, p-value=0,022), environment (PR=1,506 95% CI 1,245-1,823, p-value=0,002). The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Kerinjing Health Center in Ogan Ilir Regency is still in the low category. To increase this coverage, it is expected that health workers provide counseling, teach breastfeeding practices and form ASI support groups (KP-ASI) so that mothers are motivated to provide breastfeeding.
