Abstract
Relarding basin of Kambang Iwak Kecil and K ambang Iwak Besar is included in subdistrict Ilir Barat II and Bukit Kecil Palembang. Inundation in several places is often occurs in rainy season. In an effort to overcome problems of flooding, such as normalization, enlargement dimensions of drainage channels and retarding basin. Retarding basin is one of flood control altemative that has not been much studied. In this research conducted water balance analysis of both retarding basin. This research aims to understand the effectiveness and water balance of both retarding basin, then methodology further research is to survey the field and took the primary data and search the secondary data, which will be analyzed use formulas by the hydrology and hydraulics approach. The result of analysis the effectiveness of basin and water balance are the floods of the retarding basin Kambang Iwak Kecil of 8861,43 m3/sec, inflow of 6,3936 m3/sec and outflow of 0,0276 m3/sec, at the retarding basin of Kambang Iwak Besar there was a flood of 19348,61 m3/sec and inflow 13,9712 m3/sec and outflow 0,3797 m3/sec. In the water balance analysis of both retarding basin, inflow was greater than outflow so does not occur water balance. On condition of the comparison between capacity retarding basin with volume of flooding there are still excess water flooding that cannot be accommodate in the retarding basin of Kambang Iwak Kecil and in the retarding basin of Kambang Iwak Besar could only accommodate some of the volume of flooding. By normalizing in the base of basin is expected to reduce flooding.
