Abstract

As far as we know, Sriwijaya University has an academic information system or SIMAK that helps Sriwijaya University’s people, especially students manage their needs on academic data. Since 2008, Sriwijaya University’s academic information system is only available on the website. As of the wide use of smartphones, many students have accessed academic information systems via mobile. However, there are some problems like the interface is not responsive enough, lacks features, and the words are not big enough to read. These problems cause users quite a lot of trouble when using the academic information system. Therefore, the analysis and planning of academic information systems on the mobile platform will be the main concern of this research. In the process of analysis and planning, a Double Diamond is selected as the method to help the process of developing an academic information system. The output of this research is a prototype of an application that has passed the iteration stages in development according to the Double Diamond method. The first phase of testing the prototype got a usability score of 65 points, and the second phase of testing a usability score of 90 points. These scores indicate that the prototype is acceptable and has to meet the user's requirements.
