Abstract
Peat soil is well-known of its’ poor bearing capacity and high compressibility nature. This behavior will impact any construction built on peat soil negatively, hence an improvement is needed. Deep Soil Mixing Technology is an in situ soft soil improvement method of injecting soil and reagent material to the soft soil. This research is a lab scale experimental study of peat soil, strengthen by clay soil and 6% of rice husk ash columns which is the optimum mixture of unconfined compression test result. Groups of columns with diameter 3,20 cm vary in s/d ratio 2,81, 3,00, 3,75 to analyze the spacing effects in strengthening the bearing capacity of peat soil. Besides, groups of columns with s/d ratio 2,50 vary in diameter 3,20 cm, 4,20 cm, and 4,80 cm to analyze the diameter effects in strengthening the bearing capacity of peat soil. Every group of columns consist in 4 columns each, identical in length 53,00 cm. A loading test is conducted to determine the ultimate bearing capacity of peat soil, strengthen by the DSM columns. The test result shows that the improvement using DSM columns is indeed increasing the ultimate bearing capacity of peat soil. Result shows that the peat soil bearing capacity increases in the addition of DSM columns' diameter. On the contrary, it decreases in the addition of spacing between the DSM columns. The maximum ultimate bearing capacity achieved in this study is 32,03 kPa with BCR value increases up to 512,43% on the largest diameter of the column, 4,80 cm and 12,00 cm spacing.
