Abstract
The practice of breastfeeding in Indonesia is still quite low when compared to other countries, especially in Southeast Asia. This is compounded by the number of unintended pregnancy. Every year, a woman's pregnancy rate increases, there are 133 per 1000 women in the age group of 15-44 years and 40% of them are unintended pregnancy. The high incidence of unintended pregnancy has an impact on the mental psychological condition of the mother in the process of child care and nutrition from birth. It is nutrient that is not fulfilled that can interfere with child growth and development until it leads to high infant mortality. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and relationship of unwanted pregnancy among married women for the duration of breastfeeding in Indonesia. This research method is quantitative research, using a cross sectional study design with a sample of 5,163 mothers who are married and aged 15-49 years. Data were analyzed using univariate descriptive statistics performed on univariate complex sample analysis, bivariate analysis using Pearson values in complex samples and multivariate using logistic regression tests of risk factor models. The results showed that there were 1,267 mothers who breastfed <6 months. Bivariate analysis shows that there are three variables related to the duration of breastfeeding, namely employment status (p-value: 0.000), ANC frequency (p-value: 0,000) and using the use of contraceptives (p-value: 0.000). While multivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between unwanted pregnancy and duration of breastfeeding (p-value: 0.007 with PR: 1.349 95% CI: 1.085-1.676) after being controlled with variable contraceptive use. Mothers who are breastfeeding should learn proper breastfeeding techniques and good adhering to health workers. Health workers can optimize assistance for mothers after giving birth using a variety of methods, one of which is by activating discussions during health assistance for pregnant women and after childbirth, activating questions and suggestions boxes.
