Abstract

PT Banyan Koalindo Lestari (BKL) is a domestic company conducting business in the field of coal mining which has an Operation-Production Mining Business Permit covering an area of 10,980 hectares in Rawas Ilir District, North Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra Province. The mining method applied is open pit mining. Mining is carried out in the North Pit with an area of 31.21 Ha. The base of the mine is located at an elevation of -4 m with its highest point at an elevation of 40 m, so it has a depth of 44 m. The North Pit has a main sump with a capacity of 40,703 m3. Water in the sump is pumped directly to the settling pond which is located at an elevation of 39 m, pumping is carried out using a Multiflo MF100 pump. Insufficient sump and settling pond capacity is a factor causing water overflow in the sump during extreme rainfall. To prevent water overflow in the mining area, it is necessary to carry out a technical study of the mine dewatering system. From the results of the study, the total water discharge in PT Banyan Koalindo Lestari's North Pit that enters the mining area is 5,654.87 m3/day. Additional sump volume of 17,615.22 m3 to become 58,318.22 m3 by dredging to increase the depth of the old sump. The Multiflo MF100 pump discharge capacity is 902.59 m3/hour and the pump works at least 6.2 hours per day in order to balance the flow of water entering the mine. The settling pond is divided into 4 compartments with a length of 84.4 m and a width of 39.2 m. The velocity of water flowing out of the MPA is 0.005 m/s and the slope of the bottom of the settling pond is 6.13 x 10-7%.
