Abstract

Tenebrio molitor larvae have a high protein content so they can be used as feed for aves, fish, reptiles to humans. Utilization of these larvae makes breeders look for the right feed for the growth and survival rate of T. molitor larvae. Intake of nutrients such as carbohydrates, protein and water greatly affects the growth rate and survival rate of T. molitor larvae. The mixed feed of wheat bran and chayote is thought to be able to fulfill the nutrition of T. molitor larvae. This study aims to determine the effect of a mixed feed of wheat bran and chayote on the growth and survival of T. molitor larvae, and to determine the good water content of the mixed feed as a source of water for T. molitor larvae. This study used a Randomized Completely Design (RCD) with 5 treatments and 6 repetitions for 20 days. Each treatment will be given wheat bran as much as 2 grams/20 larvae/2 days, and chayote will be given different amounts, namely 0; 0.5; 1; 1.5 and 2 grams for 20 larvae/2 days. The learning parameters consisted of calculating the water content of the mixed feed, growth which consisted of first the weight and body length of the T. molitor larvae, as well as the proportion of the decrease in the life of the T. molitor larvae. The data obtained will be tested with the ANOVA test, and Duncan's multiple range test. This study found that themixed feed of wheat bran and chayote had a significant effect on the growth of T. molitor larvae with an F calculated weight gain of 4.27 and length increase of 11.65 greater than F table 2.76, but had no significant effect on survival rate T. molitor larvae with F calculated value 0.54 less than F table 2.76. Feed P2 (2 gr wheat bran + 1 gram chayote) with a water content of 38.70% produced the highest growth value of T. molitor larvae and increased the percentage of survival rate. This study has the conclusion that chayote can be used as a source of water for T. molitor larvae because it can increase the percentage of survival rate.
