Abstract

Needlestick Injury is a occupational accident that is often experienced by health workers whose cause is accidentally punctured by a needle that has been used. The incident have risk of transmitting infections that are transmitted through blood or body fluids, such as HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. This study aims to find out what are the factors associated with the incidence of Needlestick Injury that occurs in health workers who work in hospitals. This research was conducted with a systematic review approach. There were 13 journals reviewed in this study which were published during the last 7 years and with inclusion criteria discussed factors related to Needlestick Injury. The results of the systematic review show that the factors associated with the incidence of Needlestick Injury in the hospital are individual characteristics factor length of service, behavioral factors recapping actions and also work environment factors application of universal precautions. The suggestion of this research is that occupational safety and health training should be made a routine program for health workers in hospitals including medical and non-medical officers as well as more improved hospital management related to regulations and facilities in hospitals.
