Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of STEM-based learning on water cycle material on the topic of the flood phenomenon for the system thinking ability of junior high school students. The population of this study were all students of class VII of SMPN 57 Palembang. Determination of the sample using Random Sampling technique so that class VII.1 was selected as the experimental class and VII.2 as the control class. This study used a Quasi Experiment design with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design research design. The research instruments used were 17 system thinking test questions and observation sheets. The experimental class was given treatment using STEM learning while the control class used Learning Cycle 5E learning. The research data were analyzed by calculating N-Gain and ANCOVA test. The N-Gain obtained by the experimental class was 0.80 with a high category while the control class N-Gain was 0.73 with a medium category. In addition, the ANCOVA test was conducted using the help of SPSS 26 for windows with a significance of 0.005 < 0.05, which means that there is a significant effect of the application of STEM-based learning on system thinking skills so that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.
