Abstract
The magnitude of Indonesia's bauxite potential has not been fully utilized where based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2020, Indonesia has a total of 662 billion tons of bauxite ore and 1.7 billion tons of measurable resources, while the estimated amount of bauxite reserves is 2.047 billion tons and the number of proven is 821 million tons. The not optimal use of bauxite in this country is very unfortunate, because bauxite is a rock rich in alumina minerals in bauxite AlO(OH)3, AlO(OH), and HAlO2 with a content of 40-60%. In order for the alumina mineral to be utilized, the alumina content derived from bauxite ore needs to be increased by mineral processing using thickeners. The sample used in the study was bauxite with aluminum mineral content as large as 45.34% as much as a total of 15 kg. The free variables used are the amount of water discharge and the rake rotational speed. The variations in water discharge used were 0.138, 0.217, and 0.381 l/s, while the variations in rake rotation speed used were for 38, 41, 43, 60, and 63 rpm. Based on the research conducted, there were 2 experiments that succeeded in increasing aluminum levels so that they can fulfilled the criteria for making sandpaper. The highest aluminum content value was obtained using a water discharge variation of 0.217 l/s and a fan rotation speed of 60 rpm which resulted in content of 65.34% and The recovery value was 64.56%.
