Abstract

This study aims to determine Instagram Story as a self-disclosure medium for students of Counseling Guidance at Sriwijaya University. The method used in this research is a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The sample is 15 people using purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques use data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study indicate that the Instagram Story feature is a means of self-disclosure that is practical, easy, and can be accessed at any time and can help individuals create images of themselves, individuals express self-disclosure relevantly and are directly involved in the event. individuals state that they have the motivation to express themselves to friends, family and followers. The purpose of self-disclosure is to clear oneself by sharing complaints, emotions, activities, desires, ideas, and the happiness that is being experienced. The positive impact after self-disclosure on Instagram Story is to reduce individual negative feelings, can change and motivate individuals to become better individuals, both for individuals and for someone who sees the shared Instagram story. The negative impact after expressing yourself on Instagram Story, namely having anxiety and a tendency to see Story that are uploaded repeatedly, and fear if self-disclosure on Instagram Story will have many negative comments
