Abstract

Children's intelligence is one of the main health problems in the health sector in Indonesia. Aspects of intelligence that affect the success of children is cognitive ability. Cognitive ability is influenced by internal and external factors, internal factors cannot form intelligence without external factors. The formation of intelligence in humans depends on the intake of nutrients received. The lower the intake of nutrients received, the lower the nutritional status, health and intelligence of children. As a result of malnutrition can have an impact on changes in social behavior, reduced attention and learning ability, resulting in low learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to see the relationship between nutritional status and intelligence of elementary school children. The sample in this study amounted to 31 people who were students of SD Negeri 07 Talang Kelapa Barat, South Sumatra. The results showed that 54.8% were 12 years old, 67.7% were female, 74.2% had good nutritional status, and 35.5% had good intelligence.test Chi Square obtained a p value of 0.033 which means that there is a significant relationship between nutritional status and children's intelligence. Based on the results of this study, the level of intelligence is closely related to nutritional status so that the fulfillment of nutritional needs for elementary school children is very important.
