Abstract

Feed plays an important role in the development of intensive fish farming because most of the production costs come from feed. The addition of digestive enzymes can help fish utilize feed more efficiently. Bromelain in pineapple hump extract is able to hydrolyze peptide bonds in proteins into simpler molecules that can be easily utilized by fish. This study aims to determine the best percentage of pineapple hump extract in feed formulation to maximize the growth and feed efficiency of kissing gourami. This study was conducted at the Fisheries Basic Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, on January-March 2023. This study used a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications. The treatment given was the addition of pineapple hump extract to feed with different percentages for kissing gourami, consisting of P0 (0%), P1 (2.5 %), P2 (5.0%) and P3 (7.5%). Kissing gourami used were initial length of 5±0.5 cm with density of 2 fish L-1. Fish reared for 45 days. During the rearing time, fish were fed according to the treatments using at satiation method with frequency of three times a day. Parameter in this study include absolute growth (weight and lenght), protein efficiency ratio, feed efficiency, survival and rearing water quality (temperature pH, dissolved oxygen and ammonia) of kissing gourami. The results of the analysis of variance showed that feed with the addition of pineapple hump extract had a significant effect on absolute growth, protein efficiency rasio and feed efficiency of kissing gourami but had no significant effect on survival. The results showed that the addition of 5.0% pineapple hump extract (P2) to the feed formulation was the best percentage with absolute length growth of 0.87 cm, absolute weight growth of 1.28 g, protein efficiency ratio of 1.25, feed efficiency of 43.27%, and survival rate 94.43%. The water quality during the study namely temperature range 26.4-29.1°C, pH 6.2-7.1, dissolved oxygen 3.7-4.3 mg L-1, and ammonia 0.032-0.084 mg L-1.
