Abstract
SUMMARY The Lintang River and the Bayau River are located in Empat Lawang Regency, which are geographically close to Mount Dempo. The Lintang River and the Bayau River have different physical and chemical characteristics where the Lintang River has clear and fresh water types, while the Bayau River has acidic waters with a yellowish-brown color. The condition of the Bayau river is extreme with acidic waters, which indicates that sulfur content can affect the macrozoobenthic life in it and provides an overview of the quality of the waters in the fresh Lintang river and the acidic Bayau river. This study aims to analyze and compare the community structure of macrozoobenthos in fresh water in the Lintang River and in acidic water in the Bayau River, Empat Lawang Regency. This research was conducted from February 2023 to May 2023 which located in the Lintang and Bayau rivers. Observation and identification of macrozoobenthos were carried out at the Ecology Laboratory and Physiology and Development Laboratory, Department of Biology, FMIPA, Sriwijaya University. Measurement of physical parameters was carried out directly in the field and testing for TSS and Sulfur content was carried out at the Palembang Industrial Standardization and Service Center. The stages of this research consisted of sampling in the field, measuring the physico-chemical parameters of the waters, observing and identifying samples from the field and conducting data analysis. Based on the results of sample identification, there were 2 macrozoobenthic phyla, namely Arthropoda and Mollusca. There were 2 classes from the phylum Arthropoda, there were 2 classes from the phylum Mollusca, and there were 9 orders. The diversity index of the Lintang River was moderate with a ranging from 1.4-2.0 and no species dominates. Meanwhile, the Bayau River Diversity Index from stations 1-3 is low with a range of 0.1-0.2 and station 4 is moderate with a value of 1.3. A low diversity index value indicates that there are species that dominate, namely from the Diptera order. Based on this, it is known that the macrozoobenthic community structure in the Lintang river is relatively stable, while that in the Bayau river is relatively unstable. RINGKASAN Sungai Lintang dan sungai Bayau terletak di Kabupaten Empat Lawang memiliki kondisi geografis yang dekat dengan Gunung Dempo. Sungai Lintang dan sungai Bayau memiliki karakteristik fisik kimia yang berbeda dimana sungai Lintang memiliki tipe perairan yang jernih dan tawar sedangkan sungai Bayau memiliki perairan yang asam dengan warna air coklat kekuningan. Kondisi sungai Bayau yang termasuk ekstrim dengan perairan asam yang terindikasi kandungan belerang dapat mempengaruhi kehidupan makrozoobentos di dalamnya dan memberikan gambaran kualitas perairan di sungai Lintang yang bersifat tawar dan sungai Bayau yang bersifat asam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan membandingkan struktur komunitas makrozoobentos di air tawar pada sungai Lintang dan air asam pada sungai Bayau, Kabupaten Empat Lawang. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Februari 2023-Mei 2023 berlokasi di sungai Lintang dan sungai Bayau. Pengamatan dan identifikasi makrozoobentos akan dilakukan di Laboratorium Ekologi dan Laboratorium Fisiologi dan Perkembangan, Jurusan Biologi FMIPA, Universitas Sriwijaya. Pengukuran parameter fisika dilakukan secara langsung di lapangan dan pengujian kadar TSS dan Belerang dilakukan di Balai Standardisasi dan Pelayanan Jasa Industri Palembang. Tahapan penelitian ini terdiri dari pengambilan sampel di lapangan, pengukuran parameter fisika-kimia perairan, proses pengamatan dan identifikasi sampel dari lapangan dan dilakukan analisis data. Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi sampel didapatkan 2 filum makrozoobentos yaitu Arthropoda dan Mollusca. Terdapat 2 kelas dari filum Arthropoda, terdapat 2 kelas dari filum Mollusca, serta terdapat 9 ordo. Indeks keanekaragaman sungai Lintang termasuk sedang dengan rentang angka 1,4-2,0 dan tidak ada jenis yang mendominasi. Sedangkan, Indeks Keanekaragaman sungai Bayau dari stasiun 1-3 termasuk rendah dengan rentang angka 0,1-0,2 serta stasiun 4 termasuk sedang dengan nilai 1,3. Nilai indeks keanekaragaman yang rendah menunjukkan bahwa terdapat jenis yang mendominasi yakni dari ordo Diptera. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, diketahui bahwa struktur komunitas makrozoobentos di sungai Lintang relatif stabil sedangkan di sungai Bayau relatif tidak stabil.
