Abstract

Constipation in children is a chronic disease that often recurs and recurs which is caused by several influencing factors such as fiber intake and water intake. The incidence of constipation in children is indirectly influenced by several of these factors. Therefore this study aims to determine the relationship between fiber and water intake and the incidence of constipation in school children aged 9 12 years at SD Negeri 232 Palembang in 2023. This type of research is a quantitative study using a design cross sectional. The subjects in this study were 120 elementary school students aged 9-12 years. The number of samples taken by simple random sampling. The instrument in the research was a questionnaire. The data taken in this study were in the form of respondent and family characteristics, fiber intake, water intake and the incidence of constipation. Statistical analysis in this study used the Chi-square correlation test. The results showed that most of the respondents were 11 years old (38.3%), most of the respondents were female (54.2%) and most of the respondents brought food from home (57.5%). In this study, the average fiber intake and water intake of the respondents were still in the less category. The average respondent's fiber intake was 9.5 g/day and the main sources of fiber most consumed by respondents were tempeh (57.5), potatoes (48.3%) and bananas (94.1%). The average respondent's water intake is 1.3 L/day. For the incidence of constipation out of 120 students, 58 students (48.3%) experienced constipation and 62 students (51.7%) did not experience constipation. There was a significant relationship between fiber intake and water intake with the incidence of constipation (p<0.05). Parents are expected to pay attention to their children's fiber intake and water intake by bringing food supplies and drinking bottles from home and the school in collaboration with the puskesmas health workers plans counseling and education related to nutrition so as to increase students' fiber and water intake to achieve the appropriate intake need.
