Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of various planting distances and to determine the effective dose of metsulfuron methyl in suppressing weed growth on soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merril). This research was conducted at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya Indralaya University, Indralaya Utara District, Ogan Ilir Regency. This research was conducted from November 2022 to February 2023. This study used a Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) with two treatment factors. The first factor is the spacing (J) which consists of 3 levels, namely: J1 = 30 cm x 15 cm, J2 = 30 cm x 20 cm, J3 = 30 cm x 25cm. The second factor was the dose of the herbicide methyl metsulfuron 20% (Kenlly 20 WG) (M) which consisted of 4 levels, namely M0 = without methyl metsulfuron (0g ha-1 ), M1 = methyl metsulfuron 15g ha-1 (3g m-2 ), M2 = methyl metsulfuron 25g ha-1 (5g m-2 ), M3 = Methyl metsulfuron 35g ha - 1 (6g m-2 ). The results showed that the J2 treatment (20 cm x 20 cm) was the best treatment for soybean growth. The application of metsulfuron methyl herbicide at a dose of 35g ha-1 (M3) was effective in controlling total weed at 3 and 9 weeks after application. The combination of the J2M3 treatment (planting spacing of 30 cm x 20 cm and methyl metsulfuron 35g ha-1 (6g m-²) was the best treatment for controlling weed growth.
