Abstract
Cadmium is the most common heavy metal found in waters after lead (Pb). It can impact the function of fish organs and cause tissue damage in the gills, liver, kidneys, pancreas, and meat, finally impacting the health of the human body that consumes it. The climbing perch is a susceptible fish that may be exposed to cadmium contamination (Cd). This study aimed to perform an acute toxicity test and analyze the LC50-96h of cadmium using a test animal of climbing perch on a laboratory scale and analyze the tissue damage in the flesh of the climbing perch. The research was conducted at the Fisheries Basic Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, and the Fish Quarantine Center for Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products in Palembang in January-March 2023. The determination of LC50-96h used the USEPA method. The acute toxicity tests include preliminary and baseline tests using 1 L-1 of climbing perch. The treatment used is P0 treatment, which is control (not exposed to cadmium); P1, which is a concentration of 0.01 mg L-1, P2, which is a concentration of 0.1 mg L-1 and P3 1 mg L-1. The results showed that the P3 treatment with a concentration of 1 mg L-1 had the highest accumulation of heavy metals and the highest percentage of mortality (7.33%) with an LC50-96h value of 19.85 mg L-1. The results of exposure to heavy metal cadmium (Cd) influenced climbing perch meat tissue because the higher the concentration given, the higher the mortality rate and damage to meat tissue. Meat tissue damage occurs in the form of hemorrhage, namely the occurrence of damage to the tissue in the form of tears in the walls of blood vessels due to accumulation of heavy metals. Key words : cadmium, climbing perch, heavy metal, probit analysis
