Abstract

River as one of the vulnerable ecosystems, rivers have organisms that can be used as biological indicators of environmental quality, including macrozoobenthos. Macrozoobenthos is one of the biological constituents that can provide an overview of the condition of river waters, including aquatic organisms that are at the bottom of water bodies such as silt, rocks and sand. Padang River has a length of up to 50 km. The Padang River has an important meaning for some local people where the river water flow is used in various community activities. This study aims to analyze the types of macrozoobenthos in the Padang River which include density values, species diversity levels, dominance index, and similarity levels between communities. The research was conducted from April to June 2023 at Padang River, Banyuasin Regency. Determination of research stations using purposive sampling method, namely four stations are taken based on the environmental baseline. Measurement of the physico-chemical parameters of the waters was recorded on environmental conditions which included temperature, pH, DO, currents, depth, water brightness. Data analysis was performed by calculating macrozoobenthos density, diversity index, dominance index and similarity index between stations. The results of the study of the total composition of macrozoobenthos in the Padang River consisted of 2 phyla, 2 classes, 3 orders, 4 genera. The diversity of macrozoobenthos species in the Padang River is low with a value range of 0-0.42, a dominance value ranging from 0.80-1 which means that the species dominates, the community similarity of the four stations reaches ≥ 50%, this indicates that the macrozoobenthos community in Padang river is relatively the same.
