Abstract
The aim of this research is to analyzes the effect of sulfuric acid concentration and the type of adhesive on the characteristics of coconut shell and fiber biobriquettes, by determining the quality parameters of biobriquettes in accordance with SNI 01-6235-2000. Coconut shells and husks are activated using sulfuric acid, with concentrations of 1, 1.5 and 2 N. The adhesives added is tapioca and kepok banana peel which has a pectin content of around 10.10% - 11.93%. Characterization of biobriquettes carried out by analyzing the values of water, ash, volatile, carbon and calorific value. The best characteristics of biobriquettes were obtained from charcoal that was activated for 16 hours using varying concentrations of 2 N sulfuric acid, with a water content reaching 4.47%, ash content 3.31%, volatile matter content 31.51%, carbon content 60.68% and calorific value 5578.87 cal/g. Based on the data obtained on the characteristic of biobriquettes, the higher the concentration of sulfuric acid added produces the best calorific value and biobriquettes using a mixture of kepok banana peel adhesive and tapioca produce the best characteristics of biobriquettes. The results of the analysis of biobriquettes characteristics obtained from this research are in accordance with SNI 01-6235-2000 are water content, ash content and calorific value. Keywords : Biobriquette, shell, Coconut fiber, Kepok banana peel and biobriquette characterization.
