Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the design of laboratory scalesieving machine for solving the student’s probem relatedto the soil. The research has been conducted from Maret until April 2018 at Laboratory of Workshop, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya This research consist of three stages are preparation of soil sieving machine structure, compilation and suquencing of soil sieving machine, and testing of soil sieving machine. This research used an experimental design with five repetitions with the same treatment. The observed parameter includeelectric power, effective capacity of soil sieving machine, modulus of fineness, and pulley efficiency. The results showed that the highest effective capacity on the sieving machine occured in the second iteration with value 588.24 kg/hour and th lowest occured in the third iteraton with value 447.76 kg/hour. The value of electric power obtained shows that the highest value occured in the first itration with value 242.65 Watt and the lowest value occured in the second iteration with value 236.99 Watt. The fineness modulus of 5 mesh obtained on the soil sieving machine test showed the highest value in the fourth iteration with value 13.79 % and the lowest value in the third iteration with value 8.89 % while The fineness modulus of 10 mesh showed that the highest value in the fourth iteration with value 33.78 % and the lowest value in the third iteration with value 25.64 %.
